Policy Statement LMM Departments

PREAMBLE

London Muslim Mosque is an organization made up of unique departments, each with a leadership structure. Clear understanding of these structures is critical for ongoing good management in the organization.

POLICY

There are three levels of governance and leadership accountability, responsibility and authority at London Muslim Mosque and its Departments (London Islamic School, Weekend London Islamic School, and Qur’an Hifth Program).

London Muslim Mosque Board of Directors Responsibilities

  • Recruitment, hiring, performance management, and termination of key leaders (Principals, Operations Manager, and Imams) working with the appropriate Departmental Oversight Committee and its Chair

  • Approving any Departmental expansions

  • Approving Departmental annual operating budget 

Departmental Oversight Committee Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the London Muslim Mosque Board of Directors

  • Ensure an open, fair, safe, transparent environment in the Department for everyone

  • Ensure the Department acts in compliance with all Policy Statements, and applicable London Muslim Mosque organizational policies

  • Ensure proper oversight of Departmental policies and procedures by the Department’s key leader

  • Advise the Department’s key leader as needed

  • Develop subcommittees/task forces on an as needed basis, providing Terms of Reference for the subcommittee.

  • Working with the key leader:

          o The Oversight Committee will set the Department’s vision, mission, and strategic plan in alignment with London Muslim Mosque strategic plan and the Board of Directors
          o Create necessary Departmental policies in alignment with Policy Statements and London Muslim Mosque policies
          o Develop the Department’s annual budget for submission to the London Muslim Mosque Board of Directors

Department Key Leader Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the London Muslim Mosque Board of Directors and the Department Oversight Committee. If these two accountabilities ever conflict, the accountability to the London Muslim Mosque Board of Directors takes precedence

  • Responsible for management of all employment matters for Department staff according to London Muslim Mosque Policy Statements and policies, and the Employment Standards Act

  • Executing the operations, curriculum, and programming of the Department
